-There are
7500 varieties of apples are grown in the world, 2500 of those in the
United States, of which 100 are grown commercially. The ‘Delicious’
is the most widely grown in the US.
· Apples are grown in all 50 states and commercially
in 36 states. The top producing state is Washington.
· US consumers eat an average of 45.5 pounds of apples, 19.6 pounds
of those are eaten fresh.
· 39 percent of apples are processed into
apple products; 21 percent of this is for juice and cider.
· Apples are fat, sodium, and cholesterol
free.
· A medium apple has about 80 calories and 5 grams of fiber.
· The pilgrims planted the first US apple
trees in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
